Trim the string beans and rinse them under cold water.

Cut the beans into 2-inch pieces.

Cook the beans in lightly salted boiling water for or until just tender.

Drain and set aside.

Cook the bacon in a sautepan over medium heat for or until crispy.

Remove the bacon, crumble the pieces and set aside.

Add the olive oil to the pan, then add the hazelnuts and cook for or until just beginning to brown.

Add the shallots and cook for another minute.

Add the dates and bacon and stir briefly, then add the string beans.

Stir ingredients to distribute them evenly.

Remove the pan from the heat.

Pour in the cider vinegar and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
