Scrub the mussels and set them aside.

Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over moderate heat.

Add the onion and cook for one minute.

Add the garlic and tomato and cook for another minute.

Add the wine, tomato paste and lemon juice and stir to blend the ingredients.

Put the mussels in the pan.

Cover the pan and turn the heat to high.

Steam the mussels for , or until the shells open, shaking the pot occasionally.

Place the mussels into one large or 4 individual serving dishes and pour the liquid over them.

Serve plain or with toasted garlic bread.

HOT TIP: Before preparing this dish, be sure to discard any mussels whose shell is cracked or is open and does not close immediately if you tap it.
