Wash and dry the chicken pieces, rub them with olive oil, and sprinkle them with salt and pepper.

Combine all the remaining ingredients in a small saucepan.

Cook the sauce over moderate heat .

Discard the lemon quarter.

Preheat the broiler or grill.

Place the broiler pan and rack (or grill rack) about 6 inches below the heat source.

Broil or grill the pieces, turning them occasionally with tongs and basting the parts often with the barbecue sauce, for 30–, or until the juices run clear when the thigh is pricked with the tip of a sharp knife.
