Macadamia-Date Tart

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Mix the flour, salt and sugar in a bowl.
Add the butter and shortening and work the pieces into the flour mixture with your fingers or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
Add 2-3 TB.
milk and stir, using more milk if necessary but just enough milk to form a soft ball of dough.
Let the dough rest for , then roll it out to fit a 10” false-bottomed tart plate.
Prick the dough with the tines of a fork.
Cover the dough with aluminum foil and add baking weights.
Bake for .
Remove weights and foil and bake for another .
Pour the filling into the partially baked shell.
Bake for or until the top is golden brown.
Filling: 3/4 cup light corn syrup 1/2 cup light brown sugar 3 eggs 2 TB.
melted butter 1 TB.
flour 1/2 tsp.
salt 1 tsp.
cinnamon 1/4 tsp.
ground nutmeg 2 tsp.
white vinegar 1 tsp.
vanilla extract 1-1/2 cups coarsely chopped macadamia nuts 3/4 cup chopped dates Combine the corn syrup, brown sugar, eggs and melted butter in a bowl.
Whisk ingredients until they are well blended.
Add the flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, vinegar and vanilla extract and whisk ingredients until they are well blended.
Stir in the nuts and dates.
