Spread the preserves on one side of 4 of the bread slices.

Spread the other bread slices with one tablespoon butter, using equal amounts for each slice of bread.

Place the cheese over the preserves.

Slice the fruit and divide it equally among the sandwiches on top of the cheese.

Top with remaining bread, butter side down.

Heat half the remaining butter in a large sauté pan over medium heat.

When the butter has melted and looks foamy, place the sandwiches in the pan.
