Instructions
Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil.
Add the tomatoes, let them cook , then remove them with a slotted spoon.
Drain the tomatoes under cold water.
Pierce each near the stem to peel off the skin.
Cut the tomatoes in half crosswise and squeeze them to discard the seeds.
Chop the tomatoes coarsely.
Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over moderate heat and add the onion.
Cook for to soften the vegetable.
Add the garlic and cook briefly.
Stir in the tomatoes, salt and pepper and cook another , stirring occasionally.
Add the basil and cook another .
Taste for seasoning and add more salt and pepper if desired.
Puree the sauce in a blender.
