Combine the dried fruit and juice (or 1/2 cup water)and let rest for to soften the fruit.

In a large saucepan, combine the water and sugar and bring to a boil.

Lower the heat, cover the pan and cook for .

Stud the half lemon with the cloves and add it to the pan.

Add the cinnamon stick (or other flavoring).

Add the dried fruit and liquid and cook , covered.

Add the pears and cook another , covered.

Add the grapes and cook another minute or so.

Remove lemon and other flavoring.

Serve as is OR drain and boil down liquid to a more syrupy consistency, let it cool and pour over the fruit.
