Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Break the bread into pieces and put them in a bowl.

Pour the milk over the bread and let it soak, mixing a few times, for several minutes or until most of the liquid has been absorbed.

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together with an electric mixer set at high speed for or until the mixture is thick and pale.

Stir in the raisins, orange rind and vanilla extract.

Mix well and pour into the bread mixture.

Pour the bread mixture into a buttered deep baking dish.

Place the dish into a larger pan filled with enough water to come one-inch up the sides of the baking dish.

Bake for one hour.

Let cool but serve warm with ice cream, whipped cream or bourbon sauce.
