Peel, core and slice the apples, place them in a deep saucepan and add the water (or juice) and sweetener in quantities depending on the type of apple used.

Add cinnamon to taste and the lemon juice.

Cover the pan and cook ingredients uncovered over low heat for stirring occasionally, for or until sauce has thickened.
