This famous dessert was invented to honor the purchase of Alaska in 1967. It’s very impressive, so you can serve it for special company, and it looks difficult to make, but isn’t.

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Grease an 8”or 9”cake pan.
Melt the butter and set it aside to cool.
Beat the eggs, sugar and vanilla extract together in the bowl of an electric mixer set at medium speed for , or until the mixture is thick and pale.
Sift the flour and salt together and fold it gradually into the egg mixture.
Fold in the melted butter.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Bake for or until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let cake cool in the pan for , then invert onto a cake rack to cool completely.
Brush the cooled cake with the syrup and spread the preserve mixture on top.
Syrup: 1/4 cup sugar 2-1/2 TB.
water 2 TB.
brandy Place sugar and water in a small saucepan, bring to a boil and remove from the heat.
Stir in the brandy.
