any white frosting (such as vanilla buttercream, caramel, etc.) Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Lightly grease and flour two-9" cake pans.
Cream the sugar and shortening together until the mixture is soft and fluffy.
Add the eggs and blend them in thoroughly.
Blend in one cup of the apple butter.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon, if used.
Add this mixture gradually to the creamed mixture, alternating with the buttermilk.
Pour the batter into the prepared pans.
Bake for or until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool the cakes in the pans for , then invert them onto a cake rack to cool completely.
Stack the cake with the remaining apple butter between the layers.
Frost the cake with white frosting.
