While this is baking, your entire house will have the most wonderful perfume of apples and cinnamon.
Tips: Second Thoughts You can make Betty with just about any fruit or mixture of fruits, such as nectarines, peaches and blueberries, or pears. Use about 5 cups of bite-size fruit pieces.

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

Peel the apples and remove the cores.

Cut the apples into bite-size pieces.

Sprinkle the lemon juice over the apples.

Place the apples in a baking dish.

Combine the diced bread, brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.

Toss the ingredients to coat the bread completely.

Place the coated bread on top of the apples.

Bake the Betty 50– or until the top is golden brown and crusty.
